Car Free Vassar
Vassar Sustainability has partnered with 511NYRideshare to provide a ride-matching system that supports the Car Free Vassar program. Through the system you can easily find others who have similar travel routes and schedules and set up carpools, biking partners and more. Use of this system is limited to members of the Vassar community.
Sharing rides to and from campus will not only save you money, but together we’ll be reducing Vassar’s ecological footprint. Logging trips is easy on the simple calendar feature and will allow us to aggregate the collective benefit of our actions. Together we can achieve a Car Free Vassar!

Several bus routes travel throughout the City of Poughkeepsie, and into the Town of Poughkeepsie where Vassar is located. All Vassar students and employees can ride any “Shopper’s Special” and “Main Street” bus by showing their Vassar ID to the driver. View schedule and more information.
The VSA sponsors a free one-hour loop bus that stops in central downtown Poughkeepsie, at the Poughkeepsie train station, at the Poughkeepsie Galleria Mall, and at a nearby Stop & Shop supermarket before returning to campus. Look for the white Leprechaun Lines bus at the bus shelter by Jewett House, and show your Vassar ID to the driver to get on board. View schedule and more information.
"Car sharing" enables people to rent cars for as little as an hour at a time. Vassar has affiliated with the ZipCar car sharing company, and two of their cars are parked in the North Lot behind Jewett House. Vassar students, faculty, and staff can join and use ZipCars with special benefits. View more information.
