Indoor Bicycle Parking

Project Title: Better Bike Racks!

Project advocate: Joey Weiman ‘16
Application Year: 2014

On March 4, 2015, new bike racks were officially installed in Davison House, providing secure indoor bike storage to dorm residents! Big Thank you’s to Joey, the Davison House Tea, and for our Buildings & Grounds masonry crew for applying to the Resource Conservation Fund and making this happen.

The new bike racks are U-shaped and also drilled to the concrete floor. With the new bike rack form, both bike wheels and bike frames may be locked simultaneously. These measures will ensure maximum prevention against bike theft.

As Joey states, “I'm really happy this project was completed and I hope this initiative will set a standard for initiatives across campus.” He would also like to “thank sustainability for understanding that bike safety is really important at Vassar and for working to protect students property.”

Davison House has also supported the purchase of some heavy duty U-lock bike locks that will be loaned out to residents on an annual basis.
