Earth day is quickly approaching! Join Vassar, the Office of Sustainability, the Environmental Cooperative, and the greater Poughkeepsie Community in celebrating with the following upcoming activities.
April 18: Blanding's Turtle Project Radio Tracking
3:00 – 6:00. Meet at Main Circle. Please RSVP.
Join the Blanding's Turtle Project and Environmental Cooperative as we work to conserve the local Blanding's turtle population!
April 21: Fish Migration Celebration and Eel Netting
10-12pm at multiple sites the throughout Poughkeepsie
Join in a community wide trash clean up of the Fall Kill creek. Wear clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting dirty. Litter bags and gloves will be provided. RSVP Here
12:15 - Upper Landing Park
After the clean up head to Upper Landing Park to learn about the endangered glass eels and what the DEC is doing to protect this incredible species.
April 22: Poughkeepsie Earth Day
On Sunday, April 22nd, from 10am to noon, stop by Mural Square on Main Street and learn about local environmental initiatives and ways to get involved so you can celebrate the earth EVERY DAY. Join your friends and neighbors for a morning of live music, poetry, dancing, and fun!
*** You can take the County Bus L Route from Vassar to Mural Square.
April 22: “Nature at Vassar” Gallery Reception
What is nature? Do we consider nature to be the “untouched” landscape of the preserve? Or do we extend the definition of “natural” to every corner of campus? PHOCUS and VCNature are embarking on a collaborative photo exhibition that explores the question “what is nature?”
Stop by the Old Bookstore in the College Center from 12-2pm for the Opening Reception.
April 25: Climate Advocacy Training

Join the Hudson Valley Chapter of Citizen's Climate Lobby and Vassar Sustainability to learn more about the CCL’s approach to climate action and a training on how to engage your elected officials.
April 27: DEC Bat Lecture and Bat House Building
The Vassar Barns, 50 Farm Lane. 4:00 - 6:30pm
Join the Environmental Cooperative for a lecture by the New York DEC about Bat conservation efforts. Attendees will then be able to help construct bat houses to be installed in the Poughkeepsie community.
April 27: Climate Change and Clean Energy Poster Session
Bridge Building Atrium. 1:00 - 3:30
Join us for an academic poster session regarding climate change and clean energy! Students will be sharing their research from a recent Environmental Studies trip to Germany.
